Boats full of papayas in Mekong Delta
The main reason we went to Can Tho in Vietnam was to explore the floating markets in Mekong Delta. In town, we got to try some local beer bottled in metal cylinders and the food was great (as everywhere in Vietnam), but the floating markets were still the highlight. We arranged a boat tour with a couple of English speaking students a night before and set off to meet them before dawn the next morning. From fruits to cigarettes – you can get pretty much anything in this floating market. To showcase their merchandise, boat sellers hang product samples on the long poles so you can see their specialty from far away. We also got to explore some local life and rice paper making business along the way. I hate getting up that early, but this time it was worth it.
